Otot diartikan sebagai jaringan yang ada pada tubuh manusia dengan fungsi utama sebagai medium penggerak baik itu melalui perintah alam sadar manusia maupun hasil reaksi spontan di luar kendali manusia.

Jaringan Otot Polos

Secara sederhana, otot polos diartikan sebagai jaringan yang dibentuk oleh sel-sel otot dan menyerupai gelondong dimana bagian ujungnya cenderung runcing. Otot polos ini memiliki fibril atau serabut yang cenderung homogen. Karena itu, jika seseorang mengamatinya dengan menggunakan mikroskop maka ia akan menjumpai otot tersebut nampak polos tanpa garis-garis atau pola. Hal ini yang menjadikan kata “polos” mengekor pada jenis otot yang satu ini.

Ciri-ciri Otot Polos

a. Berbentuk gelondong dengan dua ujung yang meruncing dan tepat pada bagian tengah cenderung menggelembung.

b. Inti selnya hanya satu.

c. Durasi kontraksi otot polos antara 3 sampai 180 detik.

d. Polos sebab tidak memiliki garis-garis yang melintang sama seperti yang dijumpai pada otot lurik.

e. Otot polos ini bereaksi di luar kesadaran atau control manusia sebab ia diluar perintah otak. Oleh seba itu, otot polos kadang disebut juga sebagai otot tak sadar.

f. Biasanya dijumpai pada bagian usus, saluran peredaran darah, otot pada saluran kemih, pembuluh darah dan lain-lainnya.

g. Otot polos melakukan kontraksi dengan reflex sebab ia berada di bawah saraf yang otonom.

h. Reaksi otot polos ini lambat jika dibandingkan dengan otot lurik dan tidak mudah lelah meski ia bekerja secara terus menerus.

Fisiologi Otot Polos

Otot polos mempunyai struktur yang lebih kecil dari otot rangka dan tidak ada gambaran striata. RS tidak berkembang dengan baik seperti otot rangka. Juga terdapat aktin, myosin dan tropomiosin tetapi tidak terdapat troponin. Otot polos juga mengandung sedikit mitokondria dan ini tergantung dari aktivitas metabolismenya.

Jenis otot polos

1. Otot polos unit ganda (multi unit)

Terdiri atas serabut otot polos yang berbeda-beda dan setiap serabut otot bekerja sendiri-sendiri tanpa tergantung dengan serabut otot lainnya. Karakteristik yang terpenting dari otot polos ini adalah setiap serabut otot berkontraksi tidak tergantung pada serabut otot lainnya. Juga jarang menimbulkan kontraksi yang spontan. Contoh otot ini adalah otot polos siliaris mata, otot piloerektor yang menyebabkan berdirinya rambut akibat rangsang simpatis.

2. Otot polos unit tunggal (single unit)

Terdiri dari ratusan sampai jutaan serabut yang berkontraksi secara keseluruhan sebagai suatu kesatuan. Serabut ototnya berkumpul membentuk satu kesatuan dan membrane selnya melekat satu sama lain pada beberapa tempat sehingga eksitasi pada satu serabut dengan mudah disebarkan ke serabut lainnya. Otot polos ini terutama yang menyusun dinding organ dalam seperti usus, lambung, saluran empedu, ureter, uterus dan pembuluh darah. Otot ini juga biasa disebut otot viseralis.

Jaringan Otot Lurik

Nama lainnya adalah jaringan otot kerangka karena sebagian besar jenis otot ini melekat pada kerangka tubule atau pada bisep dan trisep. Dinamakan otot lurik karena bila dilihat di bawah mikroskop tampak adanya garis gelap dan terang berselang-seling melintang di sepanjang serabut otot. Oleh sebab itu nama lain dari otot lurik adalah otot bergaris melintang.

Otot lurik mempunyai serabut kontraktil yang memantulkan cahaya berselang-seling gelap (anisotrop) dan terang (isotrop). Sel atau serabut otot lurik berbentuk silindris atau serabut panjang. Setiap sel mempunyai banyak inti dan terletak di bagian tepi sarkoplasma.

Ciri-ciri Otot Lurik

a. Protoplasma mempunyai garis-garis melintang / myofibril heterogen

b. Myofibril berupa serabut ada yang kasar ada yang halus sehingga terkesan terlihat gelap dan terang (lurik)

c. Pada umumnya otot ini melekat pada kerangka sehingga disebut juga otot kerangka.

d. Otot ini dapat bergerak menurut kemauan kita (otot sadar)

e. Pergerakannya cepat tetapi lekas lelah

f. Rangsangan dialirkan melalui saraf motoris.

g. Inti sel jumlahnya banyak dan berada di tepi

Jaringan Otot Jantung/ Miokardium

Secara fisiologi, jantung adalah salah satu organ tubuh yang paling vital fungsinya dibandingkan dengan organ tubuh vital lainnya. Dengan kata lain, apabila fungsi jantung mengalami gangguan maka besar pengaruhnya terhadap organ-organ tubuh lainnya terutama ginjal dan otak. Karena fungsi jantung sebagai single pompa yang memompakan darah ke seluruh tubuh untuk kepentingan metabolisme sel-sel demi kelangsungan hidup.

Setiap sel otot jantung mempunyai satu atau dua inti yang terletak di tengah sarkoplasma. Ciri khas otot jantung adalah mempunyai diskus interkalaris, yaitu pertemuan dua sel yang tampak gelap jika dilihat dengan mikroskop.

a. Bentuknya menyerupai otot serat lintang

b. Di dalam sel protoplsmanya terdapat serabut-serabut melintang yang bercabang-cabang

c. Fungsinya seperti otot polos, dapat bergerak sendiri secara otomatis

d. Mendapat rangsangan dari susunan otonom.

e. Otot semacam ini hanya terdapat pada jantung yang mempunyai fungsi tersendiri.

f. Otot Lurik Sebagian besar otot tubuh ini melekat pada kerangka,

g. Dapat bergerak secara aktif sehingga dapat menggerakkan bagian-bagian kerangka dalam suatu letak yang tertentu.

h. Jadi Otot kerangka merupakan sebuah alat yang menguasai gerak aktif dan memelihara sikap tubuh.

i. Dalam keadaan istriahat, keadaannya tidak kendur sama sekali, tetapi mempunyai ketegangan sedikit yang disebut tonus.
